Assessing Information Literacy Competence

Day-to-day advancements in ICT bring out revolutionary changes in every sphere of life. Exponential growth of information brings birth to information overload. It is found difficult for everyone to select relevant piece from an ocean of information. The importance of information literacy has been well recognized to all learning environments and to all levels of education particularly to higher education. Information literacy is the basis of lifelong learning. It is defined as a set of capabilities to select, evaluate and use the information in an efficient manner. Moreover, it also focuses on the social, ethical, and legal issues surrounding the use of information. To cope up with the ever-changing world, there is a lifelong need for being informed and up-to-date. This book, therefore, presents an assessment of information literacy competencies among the higher education students of universities in Punjab and Chandigarh. The analysis will help to create thinkers who can make optimum utilization of information in a broader information technology environment and will especially useful to researchers who like to do a comprehensive study on information literacy in the Indian context.
