Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and GIS for flood forecasting

Forecasting techniques vary considerably, and there are many unusual problems that require special solution. Flood forecasting is an expanding area of application of hydro-logic techniques. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a system that can solve kinds of real-world problems. This book shows ANNs capability in flood modeling, to extract the relationship between the inputs and outputs of a process, without considering the physical process relationship. Different neural networks models used, the analysis shows that certain networks suitable than others. Finally the book demonstrates the application of ANNs with Geographical Information System (GIS) and remote sensing, that provide a powerful technique in flood plain forecasting, which should be useful for hydrologist, engineers and different disciplines.
