Art, Recreation and Creativity

This text presents an account of a research study of ¿Youth and the City¿ which aims to ascertain how the dynamics of urban existence impact on the life of young people using the city of Lagos as base. The study interrogates the interconnections of youth and the city from the perspective of art, recreation and creativity. It specifically takes a critical look at the impact of art, recreation and creativity programs on youth development within the urban environment of metropolitan Lagos taking into consideration the opportunities and programs that exist and/or could be evolved or established towards the development of better youth situation and enable young people attain greater fulfillment. The investigation focuses primarily on the in-school youth at the secondary school level. Within the study population emphasis centers on students in the senior secondary school classes, especially those of them that offer vocational and arts subjects.
