In the last years the current energy crisis in Chile has led to consider different sources of renewable energy, where forest biomass from fast growing plantations (Eucalyptus sp.) play a important role. The aim of this study was to find suitable land areas (gross and net) for the establishment of wood energy plantations in Ranco province in Chile using as a tool geographic information system (GIS).
