Application of organic amendments to degraded soils

The contribution of organic matter as a strategy for the recovery of degraded soils is a widely used practice worldwide. However, the use of composted organic wastes is not so widespread. In this sense, the use of organic wastes has proved to be very suitable for the improvement of the chemical, biochemical and microbiological properties of the soil in the short and medium term. The composts of these organic wastes constitute an important organic amendment of the soil, contributing to the formation of stable humus and to the improvement of soil fertility. This book defines, in a didactic way, the soil, the importance of microorganisms in the soil, soil quality, organic matter and soil degradation and ends with a detailed description of the use of organic wastes as a strategy for soil recovery.
