Antiatherogenic effect of Moringa oleifera & MK-886

Atherosclerosis is one of the most serious global health issues of the present century. People who are with the combination of risk factors like hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, increased production of free radicals, increased release of inflammatory cytokines, hypercoagulability, platelet aggregation, etc., are more prone to develop atherosclerosis and coronary artery diseases. Thus, research is still pursuing to explore novel agents (synthetic and herbal) that are more effective and safe. Moringa oleifera has an impressive range of medicinal uses with high nutritional value and has been consumed as one of the common vegetable dishes in India for more than 100 years. Its medicinal uses and general safety are well known to native people. It is widely used in India, since the Ayurveda and Yunani medicinal systems use it for the treatment of several ailments. The book explains about the antiatherogenic activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Moringa oleifera leaves and 5-Lipoxygenase inhibitor MK-886 in experimental animals. This will serve as an evidence based study for the future research.
