Analysis of Potato Productivity in Sri Lanka

Potato is considered as one of the staple foods in the world. Although potato is a highly profitable crop, the average productivity in Sri Lanka is about 12 t/ha which is comparatively lower than potato ¿producing countries in Asia. Productivity is determined by several factors; quality of seed potato, soil condition, fertilization, pest and disease management, rainfall etc. The objective of the work is to evaluate the potato productivity using multicriteria analysis. All factors which are important for potato cultivation were studied and analysed to determine significant effects on the productivity. Modelling and handling of geographic data for decision making is very important in agriculture sector, and to analyse the food security situation in a country. This book provides valuable information on crop yield and profit margin to agriculturists, policy makers, researchers who are exploring new technologies to increase food production to meet global food demand. And research findings make the farming community aware of importance of adoption of new technology to increase the production to achieve high profit margin.
