Analysis of Lateral Earth Pressure for a Cantilever Retaining Wall

As the population has increased, transportation demand has increased so that development of urban areas has become a priority, which has led to widening of existing highways to improve traffic flow. This prevalence has often resulted by building different kind of retaining structures. To have a proper perception of at-rest, active and passive earth pressures and their effects on structures which has been changed to a controversial issue especially when it comes to design and build a safe and economical cantilever retaining wall, the authors in this book simulated lateral earth pressure behind the cantilever wall in static condition which has always been a substantial geotechnical issue by utilizing PLAXIS software that benefits from finite element method. And compared results of FEM method to theoretical classic methods, such as Coulomb and Rankin. The amount and distribution of stresses and the location of resultant forces in Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening soil models are different from classic methods.
