An Insight Into Steganography - A Means of Covert Communication Online

Steganography, which dates back to prehistoric greece has long provided us with a way of sending covert messages, avoiding prying eyes at all costs. Taking these old methods and combining them with the internet and other digital methods allow for a large scale covert communication network to be created and used for both good and evil. Throughout this dissertation I will analyse Steganography as a whole before showing how it has been used for malicious purposes such as terrorism etc. and then finally we will look at how after downloading thousands of images from both the internet / the dark web and scanning them for hidden messages I discovered a number of dangerous and heinous criminal websites, some of which contained some disturbing content.
