An Exploration in to Students' Writing Performances at Tertiary Level

In academic world, writing is very important skills. It benefits both teachers and students, serves as communication vehicle, assessment tool, and intellectual exercises. Disciplinary knowledge and understanding are largely exhibited and valued through medium of writing. Nevertheless, majority of writing course instructors claim that their students have poor performances in writing with the projects given them in the aspect they demand writing. In view of this, the researcher is motivated to explore writing performances of tertiary level students. The previous studies did not exhaustively work on real causes of such problems. The study identified as special support is not given for new entrant higher institution learners those have poor background in writing at lower grade levels; practical implementation of commenting students¿ writing works by writing course instructors is not satisfactory; students have no clear understanding about the integration of writing course with their academic achievements in other courses. The finding helps students and teachers starting from lower grades to tertiary level. It is also works as an input for academic writers and researchers of writing.
