Amebiasis

Amebiasis is a cosmopolitan disease caused by the enteric protozoan Entamoeba histolyticaone of the most primitive eukaryotes, a parasitic species affecting man. The purpose of this book is to recreate in a simple way, the reader of concepts and discoveries about amebiasis as a disease, clinical, pathology, diagnosis and treatment, as well as the diverse aspects of the biology of E. histolytics as the causative agent of the disease. The book contains information on the epidemiology and prevalence, current taxonomy, structure and biology of the parasite, life cycle, historical background, pathogenesis of the parasite, culture medium, immune response to amebiasis, mechanisms of evasion of the immune response of the parasite, nuclear division and cell cycle, genomics, antigenic properties, diagnosis of amebiasis and treatment of amebiasis. This book is designed for undergraduate and graduate courses on amebiasis. It is based on the extensive experience of researchers in the study and diagnosis of amebiasis both nationally and internationally.
