Allergic profile of asthmatics with moderate to severe rhinitis

Asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR) are two closely related diseases. The identification of the allergen(s) associated with them allows a better control of both diseases. The objectives of our work were to evaluate the allergic profile of asthmatic patients with moderate to severe rhinitis and to determine the predictive factors of non-control of these two diseases. We conducted a cross-sectional study, at the Pneumo-Allergology Department of the Mongi Slim University Hospital Center La Marsa in Tunisia, between the month of January 2019 and the month of December 2019, collating asthmatics with AR. A total of 143 patients were collated, subdivided into two groups: G0 (asthmatics with mild rhinitis; n=43) and G1 (asthmatics with moderate to severe rhinitis; n=100). We were able to conclude that sensitization to Dpt and Df was most common in moderate to severe AR, that non-control of asthma was associated with low socioeconomic conditions, moderate to severe rhinitis and lack of control of rhinitis, and that non-control of AR was associated with poor compliance.
