All-Optical Multicast Routing under Optical Constraints

To meet the recently increasing traffic demand, WDM techniques have been evolving to efficiently exploit the huge capacities of all-optical networks. This book focuses on constrained all-optical multicast routing (AOMR) in WDM networks. Conventional consensus to model optical multicast routes based on trees is no longer adequate. Therefore the study relies on a more general graph-related structure called hierarchy. The book begins by introducing fundamental WDM technological backgrounds, mathematical modeling to the problems and literature review in the three first chapters. The detailed investigations for specific network scenarios are presented in the next three chapters, including ILP formulations, techniques to prove NP-hardness, and heuristic algorithms. Simulation results show that the optimal solutions for constrained AOMR problems correspond to hierarchies which can model not only the existing solutions as light-trees, but also the novel light-structures as light-hierarchies.
