Advances in Implant Design

Implantology is a dynamic science which has been under a constant process of improvisation. Changes in implant shapes, sizes, materials, and coatings along with technique innovations, such as guided tissue regeneration and immediate loading concepts, have expanded the indications for dental implant therapy. Different types of implants have different effects on the underlying bone and it is important to analyze these designs for its selection in clinical application. Esthetics being the need of the hour, implants with ceramic coatings, ceramic abutments and zirconia implants have come into being for particularly restoring the high esthetic zones. A variety of sinus augmentation techniques, grafting materials, and alternative techniques, such as tilted implants, zygomatic implants, and short implants, can be used.The clinicians have to analyse the condition and select design ,material of the implant and choose particular technique accordingly.
