Interferometry is a method that measures the displacement between regions of different refractive indices.It therefore has many applications in the measurement of fluid flows, photo elastic stresses, surfaces and thin films and vibrations.By extracting the phase information from the fringe pattern, a quantitative height map is produced.The height map may represent a surface profile, displacement,or the optical path difference through a phase object.The windowed Fourier transform (WFT) method is used to analyze the same experiments to study heat and mass transfer. In this method, a Fourier transformation is applied on the fringes at two different stages: initially, during the filtration of the non-zero peaks and then on the wrapped phase image. A theoretical approach and experimental models are proposed to estimate the experimental thermal time of the Mach Zehnder interferometry experiment that deals with coupling between heat and mass transfer phenomena.
