Adulteration in Natural Herbal Medicines for Erectile Dysfunction

Active pharmaceuticals continue to be identified in herbal dietary supplements in spite of regular warning from WHO. These hidden ingredients are increasingly becoming a problem in products promoted specially those marketed for sexual enhancement. Phosphodiesterase -5-inhibors are frequently found added in such products. The drug ingredients in these dietary supplements have the potential to cause serious adverse health effects owing to accidental misuse, overuse, or interaction with other medications, underlying health conditions, or other pharmaceuticals within the supplement. These deceptive products can harm public health. This study is in continuation on my earlier work for checking adulteration in Herbal Medicines or counterfeit Herbal Medicines along with an attempt to review such adulterations in herbal dietary supplements and to highlight the modern techniques for its identification with examples and the potential risks associated with these adulterated pharmaceuticals.
