Activity Pattern and Food Habits of Funambulus pennantii in Chuadanga

Information on the activity pattern and food habits of Northern Palm Squirrel (Funambulus pennantii Wroughton, 1905) is scanty, so the activity pattern and food habits of Northern Palm Squirrels in Chuadanga were studied each day from June 2011 to May 2012 at 6.00am-12.00pm and 3.00pm-6.00pm. The study reveals that this squirrel spent 37.5% of their total time for Movement, 16.1% for Feeding, 6.6% for Resting, 32.0% for Calling, 1.2% for Interaction, and 6.5% for Others. In case of Movement it spent highest time in April¿12 (12.1%), and the lowest was in December¿11 (3.2%). In case of Feeding it spent highest time in January¿12 (17.9%) and lowest time in June¿11 (0.5%). In case of Resting it spent highest time in September¿11 (20.9%) and lowest in May¿12 (0.6%). In case of Calling it spent highest time in April¿12 (11.8%) and lowest in November¿11 (2.2%). In case of Interaction it spent highest time in September¿11 (52.0%) and the lowest in May¿12 (7.2%). In case of Others activities it spent the highest time in October¿11 (18.2%) and the lowest in April¿12 (3.3%). The study also reveals that the squirrel of Chuadanga shows variation in their food choice and feeding behavior
