Achieving financial and good security at smallholder farmer level

The main focus of this study was to investigate factors that contribute to continued dependence for family food and income among graduate farmers of School of Agriculture for Family Independence. The specific objectives were: to establish the trends in crop and animal production and determine factors responsible for the trends over the five year period. Also the study sought to explore challenges farmers face and finally the study was to determine main sources of income among SAFI graduate farmers. The research philosophy was more quantitative than qualitative and the design was a survey where questionnaire was used as data collection strategy to 35 SAFI graduate farmer families.
