A Study on the Spurt in Demand for Dental Care in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam (Vizag), the city of destiny has experienced a horizontal expansion with the municipality getting promoted as a corporation and from corporation to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. With the rapid increase in employment opportunities and income levels the purchasing power multiplied with the demand spurt. Many areas have been identified as disease prone areas because of the high incidence of calcium and fluoride in drinking water. It¿s a common observation that people in Visakhapatnam take the least care about their dental strength and health compared to their focus on physical exercises yoga, meditation, etc. This may be due to a lack of awareness about the serious consequences if individuals fail to take care of their teeth. A serious teeth infection affects ears, eyes and sometimes seven cerebral structures including neural system. Probably this biased attitude towards dental care is leading to tooth cavities, swollen gums, malaria, broken teeth enamel loss, sensitive teeth, and root infections. The study revealed that the increase in dental problems is not because of lack of awareness, but more due to purposeful negligence of the problem.
