A study on the effect of Tribulus terretris L. on blood glucose

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with life threatening complications, characterized by hyperglycemia and alternations in carbohydrates, lipids and protein metabolism, associated with absolute or relative deficiency in insulin action. Over 400 plants as well as 700 recipes and compounds have been scientifically evaluated for type 2 Diabetes mellitus treatment. Thus searching a new anti-diabetic drugs from natural plants is still attractive because they contain substances which demonstrate alternative and safe effects on diabetes mellitus. Traditionally in Yemen, decoction of this herb is commonly used to treat urolithiasis and this study proves that Yemeni herbs can have an anti-hyperglycemic activity.
