Comparative literature as a discipline provides the most effective means of conveying the peculiarities of the writers' works as well as the relationships between writers,one in terms of another,despite differences in their socio-cultural milieu.Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and the regional Tamil novelist Thilagavathy,leads us into several rewarding experiences of understanding.The book aims at analyzing the gender issues of the novelists Divakaruni,the famous Diasporic English Writer and Thilagavathy,noteworthy Tamil novelist cum first woman IPS officer in Tamilnadu.Both the writers are contemporaries and they lay claim to similar cultural and political backgrounds for their fiction.The writers condemn inequality and injustice in the treatment of women in the male chauvanist society.This book is an attempt in the gradually developing research in English--Tamil literary relations.
