Beschreibung

Wheat rusts have devastating role by causing famines resulting in socio-economic instability many times across the world. History is full of epidemics of leaf, stripe and stem rust which have induced significant losses in the past during early nineteen century and would continue to be a major threat to future to wheat production. This study was focused for molecular characterization for durable rust resistance against leaf, stripe and stem rust in new wheat cultivars. Yield and rust resistance can be increased by pyramiding genes for high yield potential and genes for rust resistance in top, back and double cross methods. Practically chemical control is very costly to spray on 9 million hectare on wheat area in Pakistan, as well as, all over the world. Genetic control is more appropriate solution of wheat rusts. Rust monitoring program is efficiently working in the country and susceptible varieties are withdrawn and replaced with new resistant wheat cultivars. As pak-81 was replaced by Inq-91. Similarly, Inq-91 was replaced by Seher-06 and now Seher-06 and Shafaq-06 has been replaced by new varieties i.e. Lassani-08, Faisalabad-08, Punjab-11, Millat-11, Galaxy-13 and Ujalla-16.
