Using Agroforestry to Mitigate Crops Damaged by Grasshoppers

This book of five chapters is comprised of identifying problems of crop damage, findings and developed hypothesis, complete figures (tables, graphs and photos), results and analysis and attained objectives for a solution to serious food threat and insecurity in Africa caused by especially grasshoppers (Zenocerus variegatus L), invasive weeds, agricultural and other plant pests and diseases. Zenocerus variegatus L, is a major pest and belongs to the Arthropoda family of insects. It is a phytophage that feeds on almost all green and vegetable/plant material, highly destructive and rated as the ¿greatest agricultural pest¿ of the region. The main content reviews literature and other fields of study describing farming systems and benefits, pesticide use, importance of Cassia semen and the use of local, traditional and chemical control methods by farmers who consider local and traditional methods to be laborious, time consuming, and strenuous, while the chemical control methods are very destructive and effects are extensive affecting a range of flora and fauna, human health, ecosystems and the environment.
