Since then attempts are being made to enhance osseointegration at the bone-implant interface. Just as the bones, implant surface plays equally important role in the process of osseointegration. The increasing research on implant surface modification has lead to a drastic change from macrotopographic to nanotopographic level of surface modification. Recent advances focus on the biomimetic alteration of the implant surface. All these advancements called for a textbook on implant surface modification.
