Thyroid hormone analysis

Hypothyroidism is one of the secondary causes of Cardio Vascular Diseases, which increases the risk for atherosclerosis by basically altering the lipid profile. Hypothyroid and euthyroid patients were subjected to thyroid function tests and lipid profile analysis by standard methods. Malondialdehye ( MDA) was analyzed as a marker of Oxidative stress (OS) in all subjects. Dyslipidaemia was observed in all subclinical, hypothyroids (SHT) as well as in severe hypothyroids. Hypothyroidism leads to hyperlipidaemia enhances risk of CVD, the Connecting link being oxidative stress. Early diagnosis of subclinical thyroid patients, inclusion of anti oxidants, measures to control Dyslipidaemia, monitoring patients for OD status in the managment of hypothyroidism.
