THE USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN TEACHING STATISTICS

This book provides an overview of various methods for teaching statistics, the goals of statistics education, and the challenges faced by educators. The first section reviews literature on teaching methods, including traditional lectures, interactive lectures, computer-based learning, online courses, collaborative learning, problem-based learning, and case studies. It defines and describes teaching statistics, emphasizing goals such as improving statistical literacy and communication, developing practical skills, and understanding the rationale behind statistical analyses. It also explores challenges educators face, such as student disinterest, difficulty level, relevance, student diversity, and integration with other subjects. Additionally, it examines the use of computer-assisted teaching in statistics education, highlighting both its challenges and benefits. The second section presents a survey analyzing the responses of 578 students from the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science, who answered 20 questions about their experiences with various statistics courses.
