This book is a study of Paul's response to the financial help he received from the church in Philippi while he was a prisoner in Rome. It examines the rhetoric of Phil 4,10-20 and its function in the whole letter to the Philippians.In addition to a comparison with Greco-Roman practices regarding the exchange of gifts and patronage in society. Although "gift exchange" or "social reciprocity" permeated every level of society in Paul's day, Paul¿s response was not an ungracious response, but rather an attempt to draw the new Christian attitude to giving and receiving.
