The Relationship Between University Cultures and Student Retention

Globally, the role of organizational culture in influencing organizational effectiveness has been echoed and re-echoed at length in many management studies, organizational culture is widely considered to be one of the most significant factors of organization variables. This is because organizational culture significantly influence behavior at work, managerial practices, organizational effectiveness and efficiency. University cultures which are the specific aspects of organizational culture within the context of higher education institutions have also attracted a plethora of scholarly studies because of their perceived influence on institutional activities, processes, and outcomes. Student retention on the other hand is critical to institutional and individual student success. For example, low retention of students affects the stability of universities, their budgets, and the public perception on their competence to provide quality education to students.
