The Digital Librarian in US Academic Libraries

The author sets a good stage or proper perspective for understanding digital librarians from a content analysis review of online job ads of some US university library employers in three selected mailing lists, and provides useful background and insight into their history, who they are, what place they occupy in the digital paradigm and Information Age, their roles and challenges, and, of course, what should be in their kitty that make them thick in the job market in terms of requisite qualifications, competences and experience. The study lends itself to the obvious implications for prospective digital librarians in the United States of America and elsewhere in the world, as well as for LIS educators and schools, including the iSchools. This piece of work is a must-read for all librarians of this Digital Age.
