In order to understand the seismotectonics of a complex region such as NER India, it is very much important to address the quantification and characterization of the physical source of earthquakes originating in the region. In order to understand the physics of the earthquake source process, its associated faults and lineaments in the NER, India, modeling of earthquake source is carried out through waveform inversion technique. The reason for using the waveform inversion tool is that it enables estimation of reliable focal mechanism solutions which inturn estimates seismic moment and moment magnitude quantifying the earthquake to a great extent.
