Teacher Transfers in Public Schools

The teacher transfers tend to be ad-hoc in many countries and can be based on personal interests, political interferences and other indirect factors with no regard to improving quality of education. In Sri Lanka teachers in public schools are transferred after 10 years of continuous service in a given school. Although there are many complaints from the school management, it is admitted that transfers also help to increase the efficiency of teachers. The study presented in this book, examined how involuntary transfers impact on performance of teachers and management in public schools. And also gives recommendations on how such transfers can be handled effectively. This book contains important facts and suggestions for policymakers, academics and also for all those who are interested in reading and studying policy issues and decisions in Education sector in lower-middle income countries such as Sri Lanka.
