Student's Participation in Art And Design In Schools and Colleges

The book mainly looks at 'The participation of Women and Men in the Study of Art and Design in Lusaka-Zambia. Although the study indicates a number of benefits when one studies Art and Design, the book indicates that more men than women participate in the learning of Art and Design at all levels.In some Basic Schools, the book indicates that the subject is not taught as not many teachers like to teach it. Many reasons for this are indicated. In order to run a responsible and democratic Art and Design education system, there is need for the planners to pay particular attention to individuals's interest and to the provision of infrastructure and equipment, logistics and adequate funding.Correct teaching and learning environment will definately make the Zambian learner to appreciate and maintain Traditional Art and Crafts, demonstrate the acquired power of imagination and observation, appreciate and understand the beauty of nature and what people have added to it and to demonstrate all the educational skills. This book, therefore, will help the planners of the Zambian educational curriculum to be mindful of the above.
