[Languages of Prayer: Ecumenical Perspectives in a Plural Society] Christian prayer moves between linguistic diversity and confessional identity. The alienation from liturgical forms and the divergence between everyday language and prayer complicate the theological and spiritual appropriation of central traditions. The new study by the German Ecumenical Study Committee (DÖSTA) examines biblical, linguistic, liturgical, and institutional dimensions of prayer in various confessional contexts. Its aim is to make the richness of Christian prayer traditions visible, to promote ecumenical learning processes, and to reflect on the conditions under which prayer today can be comprehensible, community-building, and ecumenically fruitful. Historical and contemporary perspectives, translation processes, as well as the anthropological and ecclesiological foundations of prayer are analysed.
