Solid Waste Management in Tiruchirappalli and Surrounding

Improper disposal of waste often results in spread of diseases and contamination of water bodies and soils. The impacts of these wastes on the economy cannot be ignored and managing them has become a major problem. Govt. has enforced the Municipal Waste (Handling & Management) Rules, 2000 for proper management of wastes. A study has made to determine ¿Solid waste management in Tiruchirappalli and the surrounding three municipalities (Manapparai, Kulithalai, Thuvakudi) Tamil Nadu, Indiä. Municipal solid waste collection, segregation, transportation and disposal study was carried out. The study revealed that the solid waste generation depends upon the area density and population. This study would assist to find out the variation of waste generation in Corporation and Municipality and understand the contribution of municipality for solid waste generation, and compare the corporation and municipality. In practice the control of waste generation is very difficult. But waste can be used as resource for any other purpose. This book may facilitate to find out the actual practice of Solid Waste Management in the study area.
