near future. The reason is beside others the growing number of old and very old people who

receive money while a shrinking number of young working people has to pay for them. The

demografic development will strengthen this trend in the future. Therefor the retirement

decision that marks the beginning of the retirement is one aspect that gains more importance.

Because the early retirement supports this trend an so the financial crisis of the retirement

system, government and other interest groups try to influence the retirement decision.

This essay shows the different influences on retirement decisions, the institutional frame and

the interests of the individual, who finally makes the decision. In this way an overview is

given, to better understand the retirement trends of the future.
