Right to Information ACT-2005

The Right to Information act is heralded as is one of the path breaking and historic act ever enacted by Indian Parliament. It recognizes and guarantees the people¿s right to information that was proclaimed by many judicial pronouncements and gives it a status on par with the fundamental rights enshrined in Indian Constitution. The act was considered as a catalyst to replace the culture of red-tapism, secrecy in Indian governance and promote transparency and openness. By bringing the Central, State and Local governing institutions into the act¿s ambit the RTI act was given a wide reach and powers. The Act makes it obligatory for every public authority to provide information Suo moto to the public and to publish annually various particulars concerning the organization including the categories of documents available with it.
