Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (RNFL)Thickness In Black Glaucoma Suspects

In most developing countries like Nigeria,the diagnosis of glaucoma is made from an Intraocular Pressure(IOP) check, a Central Visual Field analysis and a subjective assessment of the vertical cup-to -disc ratio which is misleading most times.This work is aimed at establishing the need and importance of an Optical Coherence Tomography analysis of the retinal nerve fiber layer on all Glaucoma suspects,since most have normal IOP,normal Visual fields and sometimes 'normal'vertical cup-to-disc ratio.The analysis of the retinal fiber layer thickness and pattern is key in the early detection and successful management of glaucoma not only in Sub-Saharan Africa but also globally.
