[Religion in Crisis – Crisis of Religion? An Empirical Media Analysis of Christian Journalism during the Coronavirus Pandemic] Did religion make a specific contribution to dealing with the corresponding crisis experience during the coronavirus pandemic? This question is examined with regard to the communicative contribution of the Christian religion, as reflected in journalistic contributions in various mass media formats. It is shown that religious interpretations were available in considerable numbers, including in general publications. However, the range of content of religious discourse went far beyond interpretations in the narrower sense. There was a significant interest in descriptions of religious practice. There was media communication on the systemic relevance of churches in the context of institutionalized pastoral care. And Christian journalism took part in ethical and political debates.
