Recent Advances in Implant Surgery

Tooth replacement by means of dental implants is considered to be a predictable procedure in modern dentistry. The use of dental implants has increased due to their high success and survival rates. The ideal outcome of dental and periodontal care is to maintain the health, comfort, function, and esthetics of the natural dentition. Conventional implant placement is done when adeqaute volume and quality of bone is present to provide osseointergration. However, advanced surgical procedures like guided bone regeneration, socket shield technique, short implants, tilted implants etc are performed to overcome situtaions where minimal or poor bone are present. Along with adequate bone support, it is vital is have adequte peri-implant soft tissues. Though there are certain limitations associated with these advances, they have improved the success rate of implant treatment.
