The authors reconstruct past and present discourses related to the Rawa river (Upper Silesia), referring to previous findings and highlighting common themes in interdisciplinary approaches. What they all have in common is the conviction that the existing information and data about this river are insufficient, and that the answer to the question “what is the Rawa?” would be overly superficial, vague, and perhaps fundamentally universal. It is challenging to clearly define the potential and function of the Rawa, its physical presence in the urban fabric, and finally its location and materiality as experienced by individuals and communities in Silesian cities.
