Project Sustainability Analysis:

A major challenge to development in many countries especially developing countries is how to sustain development gains. Several projects that have been implemented with large sums of money tend to experience serious challenges of sustainability. The issue has become a major concern for most donors such as the African Development Bank, the World Bank, USAID, the Asian Development Bank, the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States. Several factors account for poor sustainability of projects. These include economic, social, environmental and institutional factors. This document highlights issues that affect sustainability of the Tono Irrigation Project (TIP) and presents policy recommendations to enhance sustainability in project planning and implementation. The issues cut across all development projects and are not limited to the TIP alone. A ¿before and after scenariö analysis are used to compare statistics before and after the implementation of the project. The document will be valuable to project planners, project managers and project sponsors who are involve in developing, implementing and managing projects.
