Problems Of Teaching Poetry In English

Poetry is that aspect of language, which fundamentally provides entertainment to the readers. Poetry is taught with the aims like to give practice of listening to recitation of poem, to help the students recite a poem in proper way, to make the students understand the beauty of thought contained in the poem, to enable them to enjoy music and rhythm of the poem, to help them improve their power of imagination, to enable them to appreciate the poem by awakening in them the aesthetic qualities of appreciation, to develop love of the students for English language, to make the students familiar with the background of the poem, to make the students pick up the structure or patterns of a sentence, to make students understand poems.
