Physical protection of radioactive and nuclear materials in the DRC

This book summarizes the in-depth investigation into the administration and secure containment of radioactive substances, disused sources and nuclear waste in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The need for such an examination stems from the complexity of the DRC's political landscape, its vast experience in the nuclear industry and its abundant natural resources, making an in-depth analysis of hazardous materials management systems imperative. This book's project focused on assessing the physical security aspect of nuclear and radioactive waste supervision in the DRC, encompassing legal frameworks, realistic implementations, perimeter security measures, access control mechanisms, monitoring instruments and the competence of security personnel. By examining these elements, the research aimed to identify underlying gaps in existing security standards.
