Online Assessments in Public Universities

Is the adoption of Online Assessments in Public Universities in Kenya feasible? The authors propose an implementation framework that manages users by scheduling online assessments, authorizing users, processing data and handling accessibility functions. The system has an embedded marking system that is fair, can author items, moderate and grade students and give feedback reports and results to students and other shareholders. Data is collected and analyzed to help target students with tailored learning and making decisions on performance, efficiency and effectiveness of the system. The analyzed data inform improvement plans and enable administrators to drive performance in academics, operational excellence and stakeholder satisfaction. To evaluate efficiency, the relationship of costs of assessment process against the expected results is considered. The analysis helps in identifying what contributes or detracts students' learning for operational effectiveness.
