Non Verbal Communication in Classroom - Student Teacher's Perspective

To bring effective improvement in the quality of education, it is necessary to focus attention on the communication skills inside the classroom. Among the different components of communication, non-verbal cues play a vital role in teaching-learning. Non-verbal communication plays a major role in the teaching-learning process and every walk of life. But when we think about its development in the field of education, it is only in the infant stage. Hence, it is important to study the attitude of budding teachers towards non-verbal communication in the classroom. Every sign and movement of the teacher communicates or helps the taught to comprehend what is being intended to convey. Despite the infrastructural facilities and standard texts, it would not be useful and relevant when a teacher does not possess the traits meant for inter-personal relationships and effective communication. Teaching is such a complex skill that includes the mastery of a number of secondary skills of both verbal and nonverbal communication. Hence, the skill of non-verbal communication may be strengthened in teacher training institutions in addition to communication skills.
