No More Delays

Delay is one of the major problems faced on construction projects world over and is more severe in developing nations. Delays on public sector building projects hinders social-economic development in a country. Therefore, an understanding of the factors of delay is key in managing projects successfully. This book reveals the findings of an investigation on the "Factors of Delay on Public Sector Building Projects" in Luanshya, Zambia.The ten most risky or critical factors of delay are: difficulties in financing the project by the contractor, work stoppages due to conflict over site ownership, delay in financing and payments of completed works by the client, mistakes and discrepancies in design documents, and delay in site mobilization. Others are; poor site management and supervision, delay in performing final inspections and certification by third party, lack of communication between third parties, unclear and inadequate details in drawings, and unavailability of utilities on site such as electricity, water, etc.
