New antibiotics against pathogens

Antibiotics are active substances that inhibit the growth of bacteria or kill them. Since their discovery over 70 years ago, antibiotics have been our most important weapon in treating bacterial infections, including life-threatening hospital infections. But their effectiveness is under threat as their indiscriminate use has created antibiotic resistance. The increasing spread of resistant germs makes the development of new antibiotics urgently necessary. There is still a great need for new antibiotics, especially antibiotics against multi-resistant Gram-negative bacteria in hospitals.
