Beschreibung

When I started delivering lectures to the surgical postgraduates on the subject of vascular injuries of the neck, one thing led to another and very quickly I realised that there was a large gap in the understanding of an average postgraduate about various inter-related matters in this difficult subject. Here I have tried to compile such inter-related problems into a composite group, for an easy reference and a broad overview of this subject. The integrated information is designed to be principally of use to a general surgical trainee. In the first instance, neck injuries are generally treated by trainee general surgeons and often the patient's condition does not allow for specialty co-ordination. Hence the need for the typical general surgical trainee to be conversant with the principles of management of various structures in the neck. The book presents an easy format for quick reference and the text is supplemented with hand-drawn diagrams in relevant context. Such diagrams can be easily reproduced during surgical examinations. For a more in-depth understanding of the individual problem, the reader is advised to refer to specialist textbooks. This book has two basic objectives. First, to comprehensively familiarise the reader with regional pathology and clinical facts relating to a seemingly simple neck injury. Second, to enable the reader to analyse the clinical problems of the patient as a whole, on the basis of factual objective findings and clinical suspicion.
