Mosquitoes- borne diseases

The present study was conducted in the Blue Nile State including the most populated localities Ed Damazin and Baw to study the ecology of mosquitoes species present in the area in order to formulate integrated control strategy of malaria and lymphatic filariasis diseases. A total number of 2529 mosquitoes specimen representing nine species of culicines were recorded during July 2007-August 2008. Anopheles specimens collected comprised of An. arabiensis, An. squamosus, An. pharoensis, An. coustani and An. rufipes and those of Culex Species were Cx. quinquefasicatus, Cx. anntenatus, Cx. univitattus, Cx. sitiens.In Baw locality using the knock down technique species of An. arabiensis, An. coustani and Cx. quinquefasicatus .Blood meal analysis for An. arabiensis and Cx. quinquefasictus fed individuals was carried out to determine the host which been fed on using a rapid, visual immuno-chromatographic test (FOB). However, using conventional technique non out of 953 An. arabiensis and 280 Cx. quinquefasicatus mosquitoes were found infected with Wuchereria bancrofti larvae. The salivary glands of 250 An. arabiensis mosquitoes were examined for sporozoites but none was found infected.
