Mapping the World A true spatial analysis should be but a holistic interdisciplinary study of the compound ¿man-culture-society-space¿. The analysis of man¿s spatial environment along with the study of representation of space leads to comparison of reality and semiotic reality, opening paths to mind¿s and culture¿s activity of semiosis and modelling. The book defines a general paradigm of semiotics for the analysis of space and spatial representation, discloses a sociosemiotic toolkit for a synoptic study of humans in their spatial and sociocultural surroundings, and pays specific attention to the study of maps as educational means of world-view that have shaped and maintained our understanding of the world ever since the Middle Ages.
